Top Three Reasons to Always Wear Hockey Skate Socks

Why is it very important to always wear hockey skate socks, especially when you are skating? Hockey skate socks not only affect your comfort level very greatly, but they also change the feel of your foot inside the skate significantly. With a specially made hockey sock on, that feel of the foot on skate is completely different than it would be otherwise and therefore it’s always better. I know, just a simple statement, but it has an extremely strong underlying logic to it.

Another reason to wear hockey socks when skating is because of the fabric that they’re made from. The most popular types of fabrics to use when making hockey socks are cotton and polyester. Cotton is by far the easiest to work with, meaning you don’t have to spend hours ironing it after every game or practice. Polyester is slightly more expensive than cotton but is also easier to work with because it is machine washable. The biggest downside to using these two types of fabric is that they wear a little bit faster than some other fabrics, so if you often play in humid conditions then you might want to consider spending a little extra on these two fabrics.

It might seem like a minor detail, but the last reason to always wear hockey socks when you skate is because thin socks will cut into your pain threshold. Skating generates a whole lot of pain, and one of the most painful is when your toes hurt. If you’ve ever tried to cross-examine yourself in the mirror while wearing too thick of a sock, you’ll know what I mean. A thin sock causes you to cut down on the amount of blood flow to your toes, which causes the pain.
